Musk Thistle (Carduus nutans) is native to parts of Africa, Europe and Asia, but in the U.S. it is legally considered a noxious weed. Imagine that! In Colorado, where I shot this photo, the state keeps it under control partly because it competes with native plants that sustain grazing cattle.
