This lighthouse on the coast of Victoria, Australia, stands at the narrow and treacherous entrance into Port Phillip Bay. The passage into the bay, nicknamed “The Rip,” is known to be one of the most dangerous in the world.

This looks like a mean sea! Can the jetties be extended?
Which jetties? Yes, the sea is quite rough.
Great image! What makes the entrance so treacherous?
Thank you, Stephen! I think the danger comes from the narrow passage into the bay between two points with some reefs extending from them. The coast is very rocky.
Lovely leading lines, and a very nice colour profile. Very enjoyable composition! 🙏
Thank you! Yes the leading lines of the wharf were just perfect. It could have been a candidate for black and white but for that shade of blue in the sky. It was a fun shot to take and to edit. I appreciate your comment.
Outstanding shot! That sea looks … frightening.
Thank you, Hien! It does look frightening, but I don’t recall feeling frightened. I was just busy and happy taking the photo. That happens a lot. I don’t even remember the sea being that rough, but now that I look at the photo, I can see that it really was.
Beauteous!
Thank you, Cindy!
Oh I remember that day, I was looking through my photos from the days I spent with you recently. This is lovely.
Thank you, Leanne–for your comment and for taking me to this lovely spot.
great lighting
Thank you, Maureen. Yes, a little light shining through the clouds make a lot of difference.

Beautiful!! I wish I could get to Australia to visit! I’ve been to a couple New England lighthouses recently….you can check them out on my blog if interested (there’s a lighthouse tab).
